SAGS ADMITS NEW CANDIDATES FOR SACRED ORDERS

Reported by: Ezeh Christian

On Wednesday, 25th of January, 2023, as the Universal Church celebrated the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, the Seminary Community of St. Albert the Great admitted her third set as candidates for Sacred Orders. The Rite of Admission to Candidacy for Holy Orders is the first major step towards Ordination to the Sacred Diaconate and Priesthood. By virtue of this Rite, the seminarians admitted are given due recognition by Church law as those preparing for the sacred ministry. The Holy Mass of the admission was presided over by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Abeokuta, Most Rev. Peter Odetoyinbo. During the homily, he encouraged the candidates for the Sacred Orders, to be converted and take their formation seriously. He added that if they cannot abide by the counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience now as seminarians, they would be unable to do so as priests. Forty-two (42) candidates were admitted into Candidacy.
