COMBINED DEPARTMENTAL LECTURE ON THE ROLE OF THE CATHOLIC CLERGY IN CARING FOR CREATION

On the 21st of November, 2022, the Philosophy and Theology Departments of St. Albert the Great Major Seminary organized a lecture on the pressing ecological issues of our time and the role of the Clergy in ameliorating them. To pilot the discourse was Mrs. Ikhumetse Agatha, a seasoned, microbiologist and a member of the Laudato Si Movement in Nigeria. She analyzed the urgent concerns of climate change, the rise in green house gas emissions and some lifestyle changes that could help to reduce the deteriorating state of mother earth. The Guest Speaker also added that as priests-to-be, and as priests, we can utilize our moral and religious influence to lead individuals to an “ecological conversion” and a new way of seeing the created world. In attendance were the Rector, Heads of Departments, other members of the Formation Team and the Seminarians.
