It is true that in the last few decades, the Church has passed through hard times in many areas of life which include abuse of minors and vulnerable adults. With this in mind, the Seminary Community had the presence of Rev Fr. Patrick Akirisimi of the Order of St. Augustine, for a workshop to reawaken the consciousness of priests and Seminarians to this existential reality.
The workshop which started on Sunday 28th through Tuesday 29th March, 2021 in the Seminary Community, was done in four sessions with different topics addressing the same issue from different perspectives. The workshop highlighted the nature of child abuse, its effects on victims, while outlining the behavioural pattern of an abuser. Fr. Patrick further expounded on the current Church policy regarding protection of minors and vulnerable adults as contained in recent documents of the Church. He therefore concluded by admonishing all present to be on their guard and fight against all forms of abuse while encouraging the practice of self-discipline and the development of healthy celibate relationships.
