The number of vocations to the Catholic priesthood has steadily risen over the years. As a result, the existing seminaries in the Southwest of Nigeria (Ss. Peter and Paul, Major Seminary, Bodija, Ibadan and All Saints Major Seminary, Uhiele, Ekpoma) are beginning to get overcrowded and no longer able to adequately provide the specialised and person-focused training required for the preparation of catholic priests. The bishops of Lagos, Ibadan and Benin City Ecclesiastical provinces therefore, decided to open a new seminary to ease the pressure on the existing ones.
